This San Francisco-based high-end residential construction firm has been building custom homes and estates for over 20 years. With a team of 40 to 50 employees, they are known for delivering architecturally complex, detail-driven projects throughout the Bay Area. Their internal operations depend on strong coordination between teams in the office and the field. Because of the caliber of work they deliver, they expect their IT support to meet the same high standards.

The Challenge
At the start of this engagement, the client’s entire IT environment relied on an aging on-premise Windows Server and Active Directory setup. This system handled file storage, user permissions, and core workflows for the entire company.

The infrastructure was reaching end of life. Replacing it would have required a major capital investment, including new hardware, licensing, warranties, and long-term maintenance. In addition to cost, the system created regular operational problems. Downtime was becoming more frequent. Remote access required unreliable VPN connections. Collaboration was limited to shared drives that only functioned well in the office.

They needed a solution that would remove the risks of outdated infrastructure while making their operations more flexible, reliable, and scalable.

Our Solution
We proposed and executed a full migration from their on-premise systems to a modern, cloud-based IT environment using:
– Microsoft Entra ID for identity and access management
– Microsoft SharePoint, part of Microsoft 365, for centralized file storage and real-time document collaboration
– Microsoft 365 for cloud-based email, productivity tools, and streamlined internal communication

We worked closely with the client’s leadership and staff to plan and stage the migration in phases. This ensured minimal disruption during the transition and gave users the guidance and support they needed at each step.

The Results
The new cloud-based environment delivered immediate and lasting improvements:

– Secure access to files and systems from any location, enabling more flexible and responsive work
– Real-time document editing and version control, improving how teams collaborate on drawings, schedules, and contracts
